ADHD and the Seductive Pull of Passion

ADHD and the Seductive Pull of Passion

Clunking down the stairs, dragging myself to the laptop, an idea or two rattling in mind:

I need to get back to that person. It's been a couple of days since they emailed me. It's starting to get rude to not answer. Ah, but I still have to research something.

Pet the dog. Pull out the chair.

Wait I need my tea...

Grab the decanter and go through the motions of preparing a Gung-Fu session, a wonderful little art of creating a lovely tea, one shortly brewed and small cupful at a time.

Finally, I crack open the laptop, and the barely conscious whispers of that email evaporate as if I'd said,

Ah, it can wait. I have all day!

Because I opened that lid, that project I'd been working on, open overnight, greets me with virtual open arms.

"Hey, you. Here's that next step ready to go. Just nudge me forward."

Well, what would it hurt if I simply tapped it forward? I do have all day, don't I?

And we all know where that thinking can lead.

What do we do when the world leads us down one path or another, grasping at those things within us that feel an excitement, throwing us off the things we need to do?
