I'm so glad the movie Inside Out exists. I can now point to something whenever someone asks what psychoanalysis is about. Too often, psychoanalysis is associated with hidden phallic symbols, lusting for mothers, and the like. But the real issues, the depth of it, is about that which is meaningful to the individual, the emotions touched off by our environments, and how we grow as human beings.
The movie is such a fun and vibrant presentation of concepts of the mind. The importance of grief and how easily it can be disrupted, the stifling of thought by the suppression of emotion, the power of play in evolving from depression, the use of transitional objects in development, the use of free association (train of thought), and more are so well done.
And what tear a jerker! Not that I cried. Nope.
