In the last few weeks, DEVONthink has been updated to 3.7 and along with it came a host of new features for its notes.

One of my favorites is “Transclusion”. Transclusion allows you to embed another note within the current one. Here’s an example:

On the left is a list of the markdown coding each note with an individual quote. Each call uses the location of a note and its name, enclosed in double brace. That’s it.

Now, I know that this has been available to Obsidian and iA Writer, and other apps as well. I bounce to them from time to time, but having this feature in house is just lovely, as it just makes DEVONthink more and more of my central hub.

Editor Update

Another interesting bit for those interested is an update to the editor.  We now have a more WYSIWYG (“What you see is what you get”) editor.  For example, here you can see the header emboldened and a quoted area in red:

If you want to keep the old editor settings, you can by unchecking the editor option in Menu > Preferences > Media:

There are a host of other updates to check out.  To see the full list, in DEVONthink, go to Menu > Help > Release Notes.
