Ending a session well is an important part of doing task management well. As we end work, we need to ask, “Will this be off of my mind?” The trouble is that this must genuinely be off of the mind.

Some of us are particularly adept at getting things off of our minds without them being well addressed. It is easy to just drop things and move on to the next.

In this way, as we end a session of work, it is useful to pause and then ask with as much honesty as we can muster:

“Will this genuinely be off of my mind?”

If not, then we can work to design systems to make it possible, continually asking the question until the work is off our mind.  Doing so helps to remove work we don’t need to see now, but keeps us feeling secure that we’ll see it when we need to.
